On Fire TV running Vega OS 1.2 (TV Ship/48), Accessibility → Closed Captions → “Text Background” and “Window Background” do not offer 0% opacity; the minimum is 25%. Fire OS devices do offer this option. Apps without their own caption settings, such as Disney+, follow the system caption style, so the background box cannot be removed. Please add 0% opacity (or a “None” color) to both settings, matching Fire OS behavior.
Hi @Thiago_Araujo,
Thanks for the clear, well-scoped request, and for noting the difference from Fire OS.
On Vega OS, the system closed-caption opacity options for both Text Background and Window Background currently start at 25%, with no 0% / “None” option. This aligns with our current caption guidance, where background/opacity steps are documented as 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% (Best Practices for Closed Captions in Vega ).
I’ve passed on the details to our team for further evaluation and investigation.
On the app side: apps that implement their own in-app caption styling can render captions with a fully transparent background themselves. For apps that rely on the system caption style, Vega does not currently expose a public API for apps to read or override the system caption style (related thread ( Possible to get closed caption style? )), so the system 25% minimum applies.
We don’t have a committed timeline, but we’ll post updates via Announcements and the Vega docs once there’s news. Thanks again for helping improve the Vega platform.
Warm regards,
Aishwarya
