Can't find the Continue Watching Row on your Fire TV device?

:exclamation: At this time, Content Personalization is available to select partners only.

As part of the Content Personalization integration, the Continue Watching row (CWR) enables Fire TV users to easily resume content from their favorite apps directly from the home screen.

During development and testing, you may occasionally experience issues while getting started where the CWR isn’t appearing as expected. This guide walks through the most common causes of CWR visibility issues and provides step-by-step solutions to resolve them.

Common causes of CWR issues

The Continue Watching row may not appear due to:

  • Ineligible marketplace settings
  • Missing user opt-in
  • Feature availability in your region
  • Stale or cached content data

Resolution steps

1. Verify account marketplace settings

First, ensure your Amazon account is set to the correct marketplace. For most, this is the US marketplace:

  1. Open amazon.com (or your country’s site, e.g. amazon.co.uk) and click on your account
  2. Navigate to Devices
  3. Select Preferences from the top navigation bar
  4. Verify you have the right marketplace under Country/Region Settings

If the marketplace is incorrect, you can either change your Country/Region or create a new test account:

a. Change your Country/Region

  1. Click Change under Country/Region Settings
  2. Enter your address
  3. Click Update
  4. Follow the prompts to transfer your Amazon account
  5. Transfer digital purchases via the Content tab if necessary

Or, if changing your account’s marketplace is not an option:

b. Create a new test account

  1. Log out of your existing account
  2. Navigate to amazon.com (instead of your usual site, e.g. amazon.co.uk)
  3. Create a new account in the US marketplace
  4. Use the sub-addressing technique to create a variation of your main email under a new account. For example: “tom+testing@mysite.com”. The “+testing” still allows mail to be delivered to your same email address, but will allow you to sign up for a new account.
  5. Once your new account is created, sign into your Fire TV device with this account and the CWR should be visible.

2. Check feature availability in your region

CWR availability depends on geolocalation: specifically, where you are physically watching from, not just your account marketplace. Even if your account is set to a supported marketplace (e.g., US), the feature may not appear if you are accessing the device from an unsupported region.

If you suspect a region issue:

  • Confirm you are testing from a supported region
  • If you are in an unsupported region, try using a VPN connected to a supported region (e.g., US) to verify whether the feature becomes available
  • Keep in mind that geolocation is determined independently of your account’s Country/Region setting

3. Reset your privacy settings

After confirming/updating marketplace settings or creating a new account, reset your opt-in settings:

  1. On your Fire TV device, go to the Home screen :house:
  2. Navigate to Settings :gear: > Preferences :level_slider:
  3. Select Privacy Settings
  4. Select Manage Sharing from Apps
  5. Select Sharing App Viewing and Content Info
  6. Toggle the setting OFF
  7. Toggle the setting back ON

This will reset the setting to ensure you receive the correct experience.

4. Refresh the content cache

During testing, the CWR may not update instantly after sending playback events. If you’ve confirmed your integration is sending events correctly but the row still isn’t appearing or updating, try forcing a cache refresh:

  1. On your Fire TV device, go to Settings :gear:
  2. Navigate to Account & Profile Settings
  3. Select Sync Amazon Content

This forces the device to pull the latest content data and can resolve cases where the CWR appears stale or out of date. This is particularly useful during development and testing when you can’t afford to wait for content to propagate on its own.
