Happy Monday, everyone!
It’s summer, which means it’s officially dev conference season! We have a new calendar for dev events down below, so be sure to check it out. We’re going to have the One Amazon Lane experience at AWS Summit NYC and we’ll be sponsoring Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, so I’m super jealous of my colleagues and any of you that are going to that!
There’s an update to the Appstore SDK, so if your app uses IAP, be sure to check it out.
Claude Opus 4.8 launched, which I’m currently playing around with and loving.
Amazon Publisher Services also had their annual summit, announcing interactive and shoppable video ads in open beta on Fire TV and Fire OS, along with some other new features.
And my colleagues Anisha Malde and Emerson Sklar posted great interviews.
Let’s dive in!
Dev Updates
Appstore SDK 3.0.9 released — You can now send a fulfillment result from outside the IAP flow, useful for restoring purchases after a crash or for server-side reconciliation.
Catalog: EMBER XML schema 1.0.0 released — The Enhanced Metadata Bridge for Entertainment Resources replaces the legacy Catalog Data Format (CDF), with stronger localization, fuller relationship modeling, and more flexible policy management; plan your migration off CDF.
Announcements
Claude Opus 4.8 is now available on AWS and Kiro
- Anthropic’s strongest generally available model lands on Amazon Bedrock, the Claude Platform on AWS, and Kiro the same day — the AWS path reuses your existing IAM, CloudTrail, and billing, while Kiro’s spec-driven workflows pick up the agentic and long-context gains without switching providers.
Amazon Publisher Services unveils new capabilities at annual summit
- Six new features came out of the annual APS Summit: the new Mobile SDK bridge, interactive and shoppable video ads open beta including Fire TV and Fire OS, Signal IQ, Publisher Supply AI open beta, Shopping Insights deals, and Branded Searches and Detail Page Views in June.
Introducing the next generation of Amazon OpenSearch Serverless for agentic AI
- A ground-up rebuild of OpenSearch Serverless for agentic workloads, with instant autoscaling, faster cold starts, and up to 60% cost savings on memory- and IO-heavy queries. Worth a look if your AgentCore or Bedrock pipeline depends on it.
Callstack introduces Apex, a coding model built for React Native
- Apex targets frontier-level coding results on React Native mobile workflows at a fraction of a general-purpose model’s cost, so teams building RN apps for Fire TV and Vega get a faster, cheaper option tuned to the framework-specific code their agents write.
Events
June is packed: Microsoft Build and Apple WWDC bracket the first two weeks of competitive AI and platform announcements, AWS Summit NYC anchors the month as the largest regional Summit with the One Amazon Lane experience on the floor, and Cannes Lions caps the month as a major Fire TV moment. Dev Posts
Start with React Native Beyond Mobile: TV, Tablets & Amazon Devices, where Anisha lays out what actually changes when your RN app leaves the phone. If you’re building agentic integrations, Best practices for computer and browser use with Claude has the screenshot-sizing and tool-design details you’ll want before you ship.
React Native Beyond Mobile: TV, Tablets & Amazon Devices
Anisha Malde, Senior Developer Advocate at Amazon, breaks down what it actually takes to ship React Native beyond phones, onto Fire TV, Fire tablets, and the broader Amazon device portfolio. Useful framing if you’re thinking about how a single RN codebase lands on Vega, Fire OS, and adjacent surfaces.
How to set up an MCP server with AWS Q Developer for Amazon EKS
By Aman Patel

A practical walkthrough on builder.aws.com for wiring an MCP server into Q Developer to query and manage an EKS cluster from inside your IDE. The setup covers IAM, kubectl context handoff, and the Q Developer config file you need to register the server. Useful if you’ve been waiting for a concrete MCP-on-AWS pattern instead of another generic “MCP is here” post.
From Vibe Coding to Voice Ordering: Just Eat’s AI Strategy
Emerson Sklar, Amazon Alexa Chief Evangelist, sits down with Elizabeth Eastaugh, VP of Global Technology Platforms at Just Eat Takeaway.com, for an AI Innovator Series episode on the delivery giant’s three-phase AI journey: LLMs internally, spec-driven coding via Sonic Launchpad, and autonomous agent swarms. They get into the Food Concierge conversational ordering experience, multimodal voice with Alexa+, and what re-platforming for agents looks like in practice.
Shoppable ads for mobile and streaming TV
Amazon Publisher Services posted this look at the interactive and shoppable ad experiences, including Fire TV and Fire OS, from the summit.
Best practices for computer and browser use with Claude
By Lucas Gonzalez and Luca Weihs

A practical guide to building agentic computer- and browser-use integrations on Claude 4.6 and Opus 4.7. The post covers the screenshot-sizing rules that keep you under the API limits (1568px / 1.15MP for 4.6, 2576px / 3.75MP for Opus 4.7), why text instructions need to come before images in the content array, and how to tune adaptive thinking effort per model. It also walks through cache-aware rolling buffers, the free prompt-injection classifier that ships with computer_20251124, the experimental batch and advisor tools, and a Teach Mode-style demo-replay pattern for tightening reliability. Worth a read if you’re building anything that drives a real browser from Bedrock or the Claude Platform on AWS.
The best Kindles 2026: I compared every model head-to-head
By Samantha Mangino

Mashable ran every current Kindle through the same head-to-head testing protocol and gave the verdict: the Paperwhite is still the one to buy. The Scribe earns its price for note-takers, and the Colorsoft holds its niche. Useful context for KDP authors and Kindle app developers thinking about which screens their content actually lands on.
Amazon’s Panos Panay’s Vision for the Future of Connectivity | WSJ
At WSJ’s Future of Everything, Amazon devices chief Panos Panay talks through the hardware and satellite strategy behind Amazon’s push to expand connectivity: the Leo network and the devices that run on it, and the connectivity you’ll eventually build against.
