Update on Disabling Screen Saver for apps that show dashboard data?

App Name: Scoreholio

App Link on Amazon Appstore (found through Developer Console > Actions column in App List > View on Amazon.com): Scoreholio - App on Amazon Appstore

Is your feature request related to a problem?

We have over 3,000 active monthly devices that display dashboard data for our live sports tournaments, we’ve spent years telling our customers the fastest and easiest way to display our dashboards are fire sticks. With vega, this is no longer possible and we’re being forced to pull our app from Vega devices entirely. Our app is completely unusable now, and honestly with not much notice. We only found out because users are complaining.

Describe the solution you’d like

Any way to disable the screensave or wake lock. Literally any workaround.

Is this a blocker? Describe alternatives you’ve considered

Complete blocker. won’t even port our app over unless there is this functionality. which i don’t have high hopes after reading all previous feature requests that get closed after 14 days.

Additional context

This is incredibly short sighted of Amazon to completely dismiss this functionality. Most of our users are consumers or small businesses, and can’t afford dedicated signage platfroms (like the one amazon is pushing now? no surprise there…)

Hi @Nick_Contino,

Welcome to Amazon Developer Community!

Thank you for sharing your use case and the details about how Scoreholio uses Fire Stick devices for live tournament dashboards.

We understand that the ability to keep the display awake is important for signage and dashboard use cases. At this time, Vega OS does not support an API or mechanism for apps to disable the screensaver.

For always-on display use cases like yours, we recommend looking into the Fire TV digital signage solution (https://signage.amazon.com/ ), which is specifically designed for kiosk and signage scenarios where the screen needs to remain active continuously.

We appreciate your patience and understand this is frustrating given your existing deployment.

Thanks for helping us improve the Vega platform.

Warm regards,
Aishwarya

You’re making a big mistake, but luckily other platforms are available like ONN sticks to pick up the slack.

Are you saying we should sign up as a CMS provider in your signage platform? Because this is for our customers, not for us. And these are dynamic dashboards, not menus for a restaurant.
