Attempting to launch the simulator from VSCode on a Macbook M5 (Tahoe 26.2) produces this error:
2025-12-18 14:56:09.735 [info] kepler device simulator start
2025-12-18 14:56:10.826 [warning] Kepler operation FAILED due to an irrecoverable error: Registering QEMU binary as identified to system failed.
Additional logs can be found at /Users/mikey/.kepler/logs
Unfortunately, there are no additional logs in the .kepler log dir.
Are there any manual / cli commands we can try to launch the device, and perhaps get more detailed log output?
Omar from the Simulator team here, we are in the process of getting our hands on some M5 macbooks to do some testing, I don’t have a clear timeline yet but wanted to know if this is blocking you?
Hi Omar, no not currently blocking; we managed to get our app out the door with a physical device for testing. But it certainly would make the process easier. Thanks for investigating!
Apologies again for the delay, and thanks for your patience. We’re still working on getting
the M5 machines in house so we can reproduce and test this directly.
In the meantime, would you mind letting us know if you’re still hitting this error on the
newer versions of the SDK and VVD? There have been several updates since December, so it
would help us confirm whether the issue still reproduces on the latest builds.
Thanks again for flagging this, and for bearing with us while we get set up to investigate.
