Usage of Youtube Player within app

Hi

I am using youtube player to play videos within my app. No content is hosted by me. I have submitted the app for approval and it keeps getting rejected asking me for copyright of the content. In this case, given i am using playing the content from Youtube player and not my own, it should not be relevant

I have been trying to explain the same on contact us but they don’t seem to be getting it. How can i resolve this?

Hello,

Thank you for posting. Please note you must have permission to use third-party copyrighted content, trademarked content, or content that incorporates the name, image, or likeness of a celebrity. Many developers believe that they may use such content without infringing upon the third party’s intellectual property rights as long as they include a disclaimer stating that such use is unofficial or that they are not affiliated with the intellectual property owner. This is not the case; any unauthorized use of a third party’s intellectual property, regardless of any disclosure or disclaimer, can constitute intellectual property infringement.

As the developer, you are ultimately responsible for ensuring that you hold all necessary intellectual property rights to distribute an app through Amazon. If you are unsure if you own all rights to the app and its content, please consult an attorney.

Examples of IP Violations:

  • An app that contains reproductions or translations of copyrighted content without proper authorization.
  • An app that uses brand names, logos or promotional images from a third party (including products, organizations, sport clubs, characters, etc.) in the app or app metadata without proper permission.
  • An app that uses celebrity images and/or celebrity names in the app or app metadata without proper permission of the celebrity.
  • An app that fails to abide by the terms of an open-source software license, such as failing to provide attribution of the open-source software used to build the app and/or modifications to the open-source code used if required by the license.

Hi Emma

Thanks for the detailed response. In my specific case, I am not using third-party copyrighted content or content in the likeness. This is not being used either in my app metadata or the app or for promoting it.

  1. The app screenshots, background image and descriptions have no mention of any such content

  2. Within the app, users can choose a channel from which they can allow content to be played. On this page, I am listing Youtube Channels that the user can select from. This is the only page where I am listing names of channels for the user to select from. I am attaching screenshot of the page here

  3. Once the channel is selected, users will be able to list content from the channels (using Youtube API) and play it on Youtube player (this is integrated via: GitHub - PierfrancescoSoffritti/android-youtube-player: YouTube Player library for Android and Chromecast, stable and customizable… It is an open source iFrame player which is allowed by Youtube to play content)

Can you please help me figure out what part of my current app is violating any of this?

Please note that all the images visible are being loaded from Youtube and not from my servers. Think of this as a app build on top of Youtube

Also please note this app is currently live on Android PlayStore for alpha testing without any such rejections
