Hello developers!
It has been an exciting month so far. I wanted to share some updates and highlights from the past few weeks.
15-Oct: Our Fire TV 4K Select streaming media player launched to customers.
While we announced Vega OS and the Vega Dev Kit on 30-September, on 15-Oct, the device officially landed in customer’s hands! You can find the device on amazon.com (or your country-specific marketplace) and in select retailers.
Note that if you wish to develop and test your apps on the device, you will need to enable “Developer Mode”:
These steps will allow you access the device over adb/vda to run/test your apps on device.
7-8 October: We attended React Conf in Henderson, NV
React Conf was great – we had a booth showcasing several of our devices (including our new Vega-powered Fire TV 4K Select) and how React Native can be used to build for these devices. Giovanni Laquidara and I gave a talk on Vega OS and how developers can get started building Vega apps. We also announced that Amazon will be a founding corporate member of the React Foundation. 13-14 November: React Native London Conference: London, UK
Our team will be attending the React Native London conference on 13-14 November. We are hosting hands-on technical workshop on 13-November (Build your first app for the Big Screen: an intro to TV App Development with the new Vega OS (and AI) ) and will be giving a talk on 14-November. 17-November: Vega Developer Meetup: Munich, DE
We are hosting a Vega Developer Meetup at our AWS Loft location in the Munich city center on the afternoon of 17-November. This will be an afternoon event celebrating successful partnerships and exploring the future of Vega devices and app development. We will have technical presentations by our Vega product/engineering teams and community members, networking with fellow developers, and light refreshments/beverages. Additionally, we are co-hosting a “React Native Brownfield” technical workshop on the same day. There is no cost to join, but prior registration is required.
