What's changed as of Aug 20? Amazon Appstore for Android shutdown

We will be discontinuing support of Amazon Appstore for Android devices on August 20, 2025. As of February 20, 2025, developers will no longer have the option to submit new apps targeting Android devices. However, developers will have the option to submit updates to their existing live apps on Amazon Appstore for Android devices until August 20, 2025. With these changes, starting today, customers in JP marketplace will no longer be able to make any in-app purchases (IAPs).

Today’s August 20. What exactly has changed today? When I navigate to https://developer.amazon.com/apps-and-games/console/apps/list.html it seems like I’m still able to create new Android apps, submit updates, etc.

Can I still submit new apps? I see there have been some changes in “Step 2: Target Your App.” Is it just the targeting that’s different?

Hello @dfabulich ,

Thanks for posting. Developers will no longer have the option to submit new apps targeting non-Amazon Android devices post August 20, 2025.

There will be no impact or change to Amazon Appstore on Fire TVs and Fire Tablets. Your app will continue to work as expected on Fire tablets and Fire TVs.

Your use of the phrase “non-Amazon Android devices” is much clearer than what the FAQ in the blog post says; it would be great to update the blog to clarify.

The blog post says: “Please note that, as of February 20, 2025, you will no longer have the option to submit new apps targeting Android devices.”

But Fire Tablets are Android devices; they’re Amazon Android devices. Reading the blog I was quite confused to find an “Add New App → Android” button.
