Why are we seeing a huge drop in the number of sales in September and October?

Hi, I hope everyone is having a good day.

Recently, we’ve noticed a significant drop in the number of sales for our paid apps, especially in the months of September and October, with sales dropping by around 40%. We tried running promotions, but no significant results were achieved.

We are seeking reasons for this issue and advice on how to fix it.

Thank you.

Hello @Mouad_Abdelghafour_AITALI ,

Thanks for posting. We currently see no technical issues that would be causing low download numbers. Please check: 1) if your app’s recent update has reduced the number of compatible devices, and 2) if you have changed the targeted country/region of the app.

I experience the same issue but harsher. The drop is significant (4x-5x) and exactly since September 1st, 2024. How is it possible such huge plummet to happen in one day? I have more than 40 apps (free and paid) published and all of them are affected.

I was right - no solution and “everything seems normal at our side.”

Yes, I can confirm that the issue is still present, though not daily. For example, sales were horrible today and yesterday compared to other days. I’m not sure if the issue is on our end or Amazon’s, but I hope it gets resolved soon.

In October, we started getting complaints that IAP subscribers were not seeing the purchased content. We have changed nothing on our end. Anyone else have that issue?

I can confirm that this issue is still happening in 2025. Since September 1st my downloads went to almost zero overnight.

Nothing was changed on my side: no updates, no policy violations, no technical issues. My apps are still visible and some are even ranked in their categories, but the installs are simply not coming through anymore.

Because Amazon provides no proper analytics or ASO tools, there is no way to know where organic downloads were coming from in the first place. That makes it impossible for developers to understand or react to these sudden drops.

At this point, it feels like something changed in the algorithm or store visibility on Amazon’s side. Can we please get an explanation or at least confirmation that this is being looked into?

Hi, yes, I can confirm that too. Like in previous years, downloads started to go down in July and dropped even further starting September 1st. We actually don’t know why this happens specifically in September. I hope the Amazon team explains the issue and provides a solution as soon as possible.

Did you ever receive a reply from the Amazon team @Mouad_Abdelghafour_AITALI ?

Hi @Mouad_Abdelghafour_AITALI ,

Thanks for your patience and sorry for the late reply. We received this response from the team:

We have analyzed the complete sales report for this vendor. We did not find any significant drop in sales count compared month by month.

If you are still seeing this issue, please file a Contact Us case from the account associated with sales drop.

Thanks,

Moses

Hi @Moses

Thank you for your response. However, the issue still persists, we’ve been experiencing a significant daily sales drop since August. All our apps are up to date and available in all countries, so we believe something else might be affecting the sales performance.

We kindly ask the team to recheck this matter, as we’re continuing to lose a considerable amount of sales every day.

Thank you.
