Possible Change in BSR Calculation and Android Device Purchase Reporting Issue

Hello Amazon Developer Community,

I’ve noticed a few major changes recently that are affecting the performance and reporting of my paid games on the Amazon Appstore. I’m writing to ask if anyone else has experienced something similar, or if there has been an official update regarding these issues.

  1. BSR (Best Sellers Rank) Behavior
In the past, when one of my paid games reached around BSR 1000, it meant I was making roughly 3–4 sales per day. However, since early April 2025, I’ve noticed that just a single sale now pushes my app to BSR 1000 or even higher. This is a significant shift and suggests a change in the BSR algorithm or the overall volume of sales across the store.
  2. Missing Device Purchase Reports
I used to be able to see which devices were purchasing my games — especially Android phones and tablets — but recently, that data no longer appears in my reports.
Even though my apps were published before the February 20th Android policy update, and they still support Android devices, it seems like purchases from Android devices are no longer allowed or tracked.
  3. Paid Games Performance Drop
I’ve also noticed a significant drop in sales for paid games. Has there been a shift in how paid games are being promoted or ranked? Are there fewer Android users buying games now?

Can someone from the Amazon team or another developer clarify the following:

  • Has the BSR algorithm changed recently?
  • Are Android device purchases blocked, even for apps published before February 20th?
  • Has anything changed in the visibility or discoverability of paid games?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,

Thanks for posting. We will be discontinuing support for the Amazon Appstore on Android devices as of August 20, 2025. Beginning February 20, 2025, developers will no longer be able to submit new apps targeting Android devices. However, developers will still be able to submit updates to their existing live apps on the Amazon Appstore for Android devices. Users can continue to use the Amazon Appstore on their Android devices until August 20, 2025.

Amazon aims to offer a diverse range of products and to surprise customers with similar items they might not be aware of. To achieve this, we generate search recommendations based on consumer data and other indicators of product popularity. These associations are not permanent and are continuously updated to reflect current trends. The recommendations are not intended to overshadow the typical search results. Instead, they help customers evaluate a broader set of options to find the most satisfying selections on Amazon—much like browsing a virtual store aisle. That said, we understand that computer logic doesn’t always align with human logic, and at times, these recommendations may be slightly off—or, in rare cases, even bizarre.

If you’ve observed a sharp decrease in app sales, please check your app’s device compatibility and country/region targeting. These are the most common reasons for a drop in sales.
